Marriage is
The quiet intention
Decision
Devotion
Daily action
Not the noise
Of white dresses tuxedos wedding planners and assigned seating
It is just the heartbeat
Of you and me
Eye to eye
Soul to soul
Not the history of ritual
The grand production
The binding together
Through community witnesses
And external demarcation
Of the ring
I don’t need the world
To congratulate me on my Love
If anything
Congratulate me on
My Devotion to Myself
All these years
Choosing integrity over comfort
And Truth over external approval
Devotion to myself
Led me to you
And if anything
Marrying you
Is simply an extension
Of marring myself
Oh so long ago
