Nowhere

When I stop driving
The car stands still
And I discover
What you are made of
And where we are headed
Which is nowhere

Fait Accompli

You call me your partner
But I feel like your tag-along
An afterthought
Navigating life as “I” not “we”
You announce your plans
As a fait accompli
Failing to take me into consideration
In matters that impact my world
Which actively weaves you through it

I’m tired of having the same conversations
And being set up in this situation
Where I sound like a broken record
Or worse yet a nag
Just trying to get
Some basic recognition

So I need to take a step back
And do some recognizing myself
If this is where your head is at
Perhaps it was premature to give you the key to my house
And maybe to my heart

Happy

I lay on the grass beside you
And looked up at
Your soft brown eyes
With the bright sun
Behind you
You were so beautiful
I felt so soothed content
And happy

I looked across
At your soft strong body
The water glistened
On your skin
And your eyes
Danced with joy
I’ve never seen you
This happy
