Like One who Doesn’t Care

This 4,000 year legacy
meant everything to me
But your actions attitude
And hypocrisy
Necessitate that I
Leave it in the dust
Like one who doesn’t care
And you don’t blink
or register the tragic loss
Because you expected this generation
To turn its back
Anyhow

Religious and Holy

You cultivate
The kind of man
Who is crass and demeaning
And you call your method
Religious and holy
While you shove me to the back of the sanctuary
Behind a wall
And silence my prayers
To Gd
Making it a constant fight
To be part of this community
With any kind of integrity

You Ask Me if I’m Jewish

In a roomful of people
Gathered to celebrate the holy new year
You ask me
If I’m Jewish
Your only words to me
An otherwise perfect stranger
It’s that kind of ignorance
Arrogance
And distorted sense of entitlement
That push me
Farther and farther away
From Jewish life
Until one day
My answer
Just might be
“No.”
